A good start would be to ask other brides/grooms.  Start with the ones you know and then consider joining web forums to get more opinions.  You can also ask videographers for a list of their recent brides you can contact.  It is important to cosider each opinion, whether they got professional services or not.

When you talk to recent brides they will most likely overflow with information about their wedding and the services they had.  Here is a list of some questions to ask recent brides:

• If you had to pick between photography or videography, which would you choose?
• Why did you choose to have professional videography?
• How did you find your videographer?
• If you had to do it all over again, what would you do differently about your videography arrangements (if anything)?
• Were there any particular things you had in mind when shopping around for videography?
• What differences did you see between different videographers as you interviewed them?
• What “lessons-learned” have you come up with concerning your wedding videography?
• Do you know of any recent brides that wouldn’t mind answering these same questions?

After talking to several people, you will already start to develope a good idea of what you need to be looking for.  This will give you a great start on your own search for professional wedding videography.

This was filmed in HD format.  What can you learn from this?  Lighting makes a huge difference.  Igor filmed in dim lighting, so the quality is not  what it would have been in natural light or even a well lit place.  Think about that if your wedding takes place in the evening (and speak with your videographer about it).

As a wedding videographer I aim to capture all the memories of your wedding day in motion while keeping a low profile.  I’ve been asked how we get the “up close and personal” shots without really getting in anyone’s way.  The fact is that in the released video it looks like we are in the middle of all the action and excitement.

Two Secrets.  One- It’s all about being creative.  Sometimes we do have to get up close and personal with our cameras, but we do it so quickly and effortlessly that you might even forget we are there.  After all, who would want a wedding video with the videographer  filming  from one place for an hour? (I’m sorry to those who ended up with video in such fashion)  We aim to pass along the excitement of the day to the viewers.  This one is a great example.

The second secret is capturing impeccable audio.  We use devices such as wireless mics to capture the richness of the human voice making it stunning when shown in the video.  It gives you a movie feel, almost as if you are at the altar with the couple.  Even whispers can be heard!

When planning a wedding or special event, I know that photography is usually the first thing that comes to mind (for most people) when thinking about preserving the memories of that special day. After all, photography has been readily available since the turn of the century and over time has become an important part of our everyday lives. As a result of historical tradition, videography often takes a backseat to photography for most brides when they’re budgeting their wedding.

The Advancement of Videography
While photography is certainly a great investment for preserving your special day, videography has come a long way in recent years. The advent of digital video cameras, digital music and professional video editing systems that run on home computers has dramatically increased the quality of videography in the past 5- 10 years. In many ways it is now a superior means of documenting special events.

Thirty years from now you’ll be able to hear your wedding song, the YMCA, and the other songs of the moment that you insisted the band or the DJ played at your reception.

You can preserve the audio of you saying your wedding vows and those two important words “I do”; not to mention the speech by your parents that didn’t leave a dry eye in the house, the always hilarious best man’s toast, or a heartfelt speech by your maid of honor.

Photographs can’t show that walk down the aisle, the way you moved during your first dance (or the way some of your guests *attempted* to dance).

Video Captures Humor
Some of your favorite memories from your wedding will be the funny ones. While photography is great at catching an expression on someone’s face, video can often do a better job of capturing both physical comedy and verbal comedy. After all, when’s the last time you saw a comedian release a standup comedy photo album?

Why Photography?
So why is videography still an afterthought for some brides? For one, old habits die hard and wedding photos are a tradition that will likely survive for a long time to come. The DVD made it much easier to transport video, but it was still not a self contained unit; you needed a DVD player and TV to get it to work. Unless a bride hosted a DVD viewing party, it was likely only a few close friends saw the completed wedding video in the past.

However, the proliferation of broadband internet connections has changed all that. Now broadband video have made it easy to share wedding videos online and let everyone re-live those special events in a community viewing experience. Now that wedding videos can be shared easily, it’s only a matter of time until they move to the forefront in wedding planning and become a critical component of wedding culture.
